This Week in the Blogs
By Rachel Tanner
Meridian Magazine Intern

  • I'm sure several of us are enjoying our summers by traveling as much as possible. I found this blog to be hilarious and true when it comes to road trips. The blogger has come up with five universal truths of traveling I think many of us can relate to. Whether we're married, single, have lots of kids or no kids, I think these truths apply to all. And if you find the blogger's universal truths entertaining, be sure to read reader's comments as well. Several more traveling truths are discussed. Check them out here.
  • Attention all Harry Potter fans! This blogger has found a way to relate Mormonism to the popular Harry Potter series. With the recent theater release of the latest movie, it got this blogger thinking about fantasy, the supernatural and Mormons. I found the ideas presented to be very thought-provoking. I have never thought about how magic or Harry Potter can relate to Mormon ideas. Read the blog for yourself here.

  • While summer is mostly known for its freedom and fun times, we can't kid ourselves and say that we don't ever get bored. If you have bored kids, try the idea in this blog. The blogger has come up with an incentive program for her daughter, and each activity on her list that she completes earns her a dollar. At the end of the summer, she gets to collect the earnings. Not only will this help to keep your kids busy, it will help them learn new skills and keep things around the house clean. That makes for happy parents AND kids!

  • I found this missionary recipe blog when I was searching for the ever-popular funeral potatoes recipe. It was created by a mom especially for her missionary, but anyone can access the blog and find tasty recipes. This was quite a find because there are several recipes on the site that sound delicious, not to mention easy to make. Check out all the yummy-sounding recipes here.

  • A new Mormon Web site has recently been created called holyfetch.com. This site is made solely for the purpose of dispelling all the untrue urban legends and myths about Mormons. If you've ever wondered if Snoop Doog, Butch Cassidy or Amy Adams are Mormons, you'll find the answers here. Several other questions about Mormon theories, conversions, missionaries, etc., are answered on the site as well. You never know, this might come in as a handy resource!
